ABOUT Facilities

Facilities

Our research teams are housed in state-of-the-art facilities in Montreal and Quebec City, specifically at the CRULRG and COPL (affiliated to Laval University, Québec) and at McGill University (Montréal).  The future Neurophotonics Center will offer brand new laboratories as well as a clean room.

facilities

The CRULRG is affiliated to Laval University and constitutes an innovative teaching and training environment in leading fields of research such as Neurosciences and Genetics. Its mission is to further the knowledge of the causes and treatments of neurological and neuropsychiatric diseases as well as to improve our understanding of the brain and behavior. The CRULRG is already famous around the World for its expertise on schizophrenia, bipolar disorders, major depression, autism, Gilles de la Tourette disease, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, Huntington's chorea, epilepsy, chronic pain, pathological gambling, alcoholism and sleep disorders associated with aging. Experts in Cellular and Systems Neurobiology take part in the Neurophysics group.

facilities-5The COPL is the most advanced university research center in Optics and Photonics in Canada. It regroups 25 faculties from various scientific backgrounds, 15 research associates and post-doctoral students and more than 125 graduate students. The center specializes in imaging, metrology and optical instrumentation, guided optics, fibers, lasers and ultrashort pulses, optical telecommunications and photonic materials. The COPL is affiliated with many start-ups and long time implanted companies in North America. A brand new building ("Pavillon d'Optique Photonique" a.k.a. "POP") is currently under construction and will provide a world-class environment to its researchers. Authorities in various Photonics fields have joined the Neurophysics association.

facilities-4The internationally-known McGill University (Montreal) comprises 21 faculties and professional schools offering over 300 programs at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels. Experts in Chemistry, Nanotechnology and Materials Science complete the Neurophysics alliance. McGill provides world-class facilities, in particular an in-house micromachining fab in a 3000 sq. ft. clean room, an atomic manipulation facility as well as a 1.3 Tflop supercomputer for modeling.

Finally, a new state-of-the-art facility called the Neurophotonics Center, which is issued from the Neurophysics alliance, will be soon under construction and will open by the end of the year at the CRULRG. These additional 11,500 sq. ft. will greatly extend our research capabilities and allow for more researchers and students to join the Neurophysics grant.
